Introducing The Bindery & The Arcana Project at 1727 Haight Street
This July 4th, the Booksmith, a landmark independent bookstore in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury, will open The Bindery (1727 Haight St.), a new, 2,800-sf. satellite space featuring a dedicated events parlor, and a full-service bookstore.
About The Bindery
The event parlor will have a beer and wine bar and a full service café, and will be available to rent 7 days a week for all manner of events, both literary and otherwise.
The Bindery will also be a living full-service bookstore featuring an experimental keystone, The Arcana Project: a deep, highly inclusive array of books—fiction and nonfiction, from all over the world—presented in chronological order, by the date they were written.
Booksmith will remain open at 1644 Haight.
More about The Arcana Project
The Arcana Project will add about 10,000 titles to Booksmith’s existing inventory. It is designed to assemble an incomplete, constantly evolving index of converging and diverging stories that lead towards our literary, cultural moment.
The peculiar organization intends to offer a way to get lost, be surprised, find new things, and remember what might have been forgotten. It hopes to anchor to the past, and imagine the future. It will change over time, based on a permanent box to suggest titles to carry. It will cluster around different nodes of thought as it evolves and grows. It will cement the Bindery as a place in the Haight for the curious.
Are you Curious?
The Arcana Project will be open for viewing (and shopping) beginning July 4th at noon at 1727 Haight Street (formerly the home of Second Act Marketplace).
