Memoir of the tumultuous journey through the remarkable, life-changing decade of a 50 year old woman after she ends a 23 year marriage, highlighting events, including mental and physical abuse and the mental turmoil resulting from poor personal choices as well as the empowerment that has come from their resolution. Explores the effects of a strict Catholic childhood on decisions made as an adult, the realization of the sexual passion that drives a woman in her prime, and finally the work towards the balance that moves her beyond the trap of the rescuer. Ultimately triumphantly rejoices in the power of the human spirit to overcome abuse and to rise above bad choices to look towards life lived to the fullest as opposed to mere existence.
Kathleen Shay is a sixty-one year old emerging writer, artist and photographer. Surviving polio at the age of one, she lived her childhood years in a large, strict Catholic family, became an OB nurse and raised a family of four before returning to college and making life changing decisions after the failure of her first 23 year marriage. In the next ten years she married and divorced three more times, overcoming domestic abuse, sexual addiction and mental illness in her search for stability and meaning to her life, finally achieving her goals without compromising her mental health and happiness. Currently lives in an emotionally and mentally healthy relationship, pursuing her art and writing.
