Live Podcast with Scriptnotes host John August

Booksmith is thrilled to host screenwriter and Scriptnotes host John August. This event will be a reading and signing, as well as a live recording of John's podcast Scriptnotes.


John will be discussing screenwriting and his debut children's book, Arlo Finch in the Valley of Fire, with a special guest to be announced. Scriptnotes is a weekly podcast about screenwriting, including everything from the craft to the business to the best ways to actually get yourself writing.


This is a free event, but seating is limited. To reserve a seat, you can buy a ticket here, which includes one copy of Arlo Finch in the Valley of Fire (tickets are equal to the cost of the book plus tax).



Born and raised in Boulder, Colorado, John August earned a degree in journalism from Drake University and an MFA in film from USC. As a screenwriter, his credits include Big Fish, Charlieā€™s Angels, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, and Frankenweenie. In addition to his film career, he hosts a popular weekly podcast, Scriptnotes, with Craig Mazin. He also created the Writer Emergency Pack, an educational storytelling tool that was distributed to over 2,000 classrooms in partnership with non-profit literacy groups like 826LA and NaNoWriMo.
