In addition to being a Senator, Gary Hart is a scholar of the Jeffersonian ideals that created our nation. He was raised in the Church of the Nazarene, and is a graduate of Bethany Nazarene College and the Yale Divinity School. Such broad experience gives him a very unique perspective to discuss the relationship of faith and politics, and in "God and Caesar in America, he does so with vigor.
The United States is witnessing an unprecedented and potentially dangerous religious revival, unique in its political manifestation and dominated by a minority of evangelical protestant fundamentalists. In the process, the Religious Right have not only seized significant portions of a major political party (Republicans) and many of its leaders, but vocal control of major policy issues as well.
